This week, the topic of the logo design podcast was Why The 2012 London Olympics Logo Sucked. After listening to the latest podcast, not only did I notice a lot of chapter mistakes (which aren't my fault) but a really negative, derisive tone (which is totally my fault). I sound really "high and mighty". But this logo just got me really agitated. Why does such a talented designer, Wolff Olins, think he can just ignore basic design principles like legibility? Why bright pink? Why do I hate the 80's so much?
Jon Stewart pays tribute to it here. I thought he had exactly the right tone. I remember really liking Nutsy the Olympic Mascot.

Ok I have seen several opinions on this, and I have to say, I love the U.K., and I love that they have generated several trends, from alternative music to fashion..But HOLY EVER LOVIN POO!!! This is a bit much, I could be slow, but nowhere in that logo do I see peace & comrodory,fresh & hip is always cool, but after watching the logo, I had an urge to potty, and put my bra on the outside of my shirt, wich just seems odd???(till i am 70).
They needn't have gone to such a prestigious designer to get their logo. I think I have proved my worth when it comes to outstanding logo design ideas. To reiterate, here are just a few of the overwhelmingly awesome logo design ideas that come from my head:
1) A banana, but instead of a peel, it's wrapped in a tortilla. It has a Reese Witherspoon chin.
2) Two fellows. One is posing as the letter A. The other is mocking him.
3) An enormous cruise liner saddled up on a ladybug. The ladybug says "Get these reins outta my mouth!" in a very attitudinal fashion.
See?
Shame on you for hating the 80's so much. I've been waiting for the fashion of my younger years of glory to come back.. (minus the ratted big bangs and frightening hair). that aside, I'm just trying to see the idea behind this logo and how it actually relates to the olympice. I'm with Joel.. at least his ideas have no point on purpose...

ummmm, I didn't notice that Joel had said "Two fellows. One posing NAKED as the letter A." I guess if you are posing as the letter A you must be naked. I'm learning so much from all this blogging...
