Sea monkeys? Did they look very much like the illustrations? Most of that stuff ended up looking and working just as expected.
I didn't really read comics except Mad and Cracked. But I remember getting Boys Life, and the only part I liked was the joke page and the ads. I remember getting real miniature sea horses one time, and I think they even lived for a few days.
I ordered a hovercraft once and it was about 6" big and did not hover.
