Under the Banner of Retardation

Quick background: I'm an independent Conservative who loves Bush. There's a large number of people I would RATHER hear speak at my graduation, but having Cheney there would be both cool and historical. I went to BYU, found it extremely lame in many ways, and finished up my schooling at UVSC. Did NOT attend my graduation. Did NOT care.

It's a good thing I was not visiting my alma mater yesterday though, or my arms would be limp noodles from the crotch punches I would have been forced to deal out. On BOTH sides of this non-issue. My good hell, people. It's great that you're exercising your free speech rights. But for the love of crap, read what you've written on your posters. Look at what you're holding up. Ask yourself: "Do I deserve a pummeling to my genitals for what I'm expressing in marker?"

The best one, and the one I cannot find a pic of, is the one I saw on the news "Cheney/Voldemort 2008". That one sums it up for me.

Remember when we were going to exercise our freedom of speech rights by writing "COOL GUYS" on the side of the mountain? All we managed to write was the "Y". We should finish that project some time.

I enjoyed the photo commentary immensely. Particularly the last two.

I don't get it. You think the one guy's point would be better made if he read the Book of Mormon? You want to hit the guy in the crotch because he referenced the D&C instead? You support torture of BYU students with whom you don't agree? You say that you are pro-free-speech (way to take a stand, man), but you don't sound like you mean it. I'm not sure I'm understanding this post correctly.

Also, that chick in the first picture is holding a sign that implies she doesn't like Cheney because he tortures hics. That's funny but I'm not sure I'm getting her point, either.

I want to hit the guy in the crotch for using a D&C reference to say that he doesnt support war, when the BOM is full of justified and necessary wars. Which you probably don't think we're in. Whatever.

Of course I'm for free speech. I mean that. I just would like people to read their posters before they hold them up. Or don't. Because I like using my free speech to make fun of them.

I'm so pro-torture it hurts. We should be practicing torture on prisoners, so we can do it even better with war criminals.

Kudos to you for posting. Noone wants to touch this with a 10-ft poster pole.

I'm sorry. What justified and necessary war are we in right now? Certainly not Iraq. I guess you're talking about Afghanistan. The protesters seem to be upset about Cheney's corruption, perhaps including but not necessarily limited to the war effort. Are you pro-corruption, too?

I don't get why you think that D&C guy's reference is invalid. Are you saying that he SHOULD be pro-war because that's how you interpret his scriptures? That's kind of a dumb reason to be pro-war. I'm not particularly pro-war but I can come up with a number of better reasons than what YOU think Joseph Smith thinks. The guy is anti-war. He's just making a point. Certainly his placard is an incomplete argument, but it's not intended to be. It's just an attention-getter. Give the guy a break. I doubt he's anti-war BECAUSE of his interpretation of Brother Joseph's words, he's just found some line in the D&C to support his position, a position he holds with or without the D&C OR the BoM.

That's the way "revealed" scriptures work. You can interpret them any way you want. You have an opinion, then you support that opinion in the scriptures. You did it; so can he.

Unna-way.. Your next post needs to defend your pro-torture position. I'm going to assume that most of that last sentence was hyperbolic, as your writing style typically makes extensive use of hyperbole, but I assume you do have SOME rational justification for your stance. Maybe you think its efficacy can be demonstrated. Care to try?

Upon further contemplation, I'm wondering if my point about scriptural inerpretation as argumentation was exactly the point you were trying to make: that using the scriptures to justify ones position is highly dubious and easily countered. If that was your point, I'll go ahead and agree. If your point was that good mormons should be pro-war because that's what their scriptures say, then I'll have to hit you in the nards.

Funny.

My point with the D&C guy was, don't use scripture to defend your political view, because there will always be another scripture that says the opposite. Use the scriptures for defending your argument in a religion class.

There needs to be a few more Comment Deleteds.

Yeah, I was being a little overthetop with the torture statement. Seriously I am FOR using harsh interrogation methods for war criminals, within Geneva COnvention bounds and with strict supervision. I value the rights of innocent victims way more than the human rights of war criminals. I gotta go. THis is a fun topic, though. Lets discuss on YOUR blog, dave.

For some reason it really surprises me that you are a conservative Bush supporter. your fun outter edge persona made me think you'd be a liberal bush hating democrat. not that i cared either way to be honest. i too am a conservative bush supporter and found your comments on byu protest hilarious ESPECIALLY the torture and read your scriptures comments. what is funny is that my liberal commie pinko bush hating daughter would probably have been one of the protestors if she weren't still in high school. kids, gotta love em in spite of their wicked ways. take that hillary!

I'm glad BYU students are protesting, even if their signs are retardo. Cheney, ROVE (I think he's the worst) and Bush are AWFUL.

I agree with the pinko commie Hillary, but I am intrigued by your support of Bush.
